# Nava OS — development brief
Reviewed October 19, 2026. Summary of local project documentation; not an installation guide.

## Architecture
Nava OS is an independent Linux-based operating system. The project develops startup, services, package tooling, compositor and desktop functionality with open-source libraries. It does not use its own kernel.

## Status
The roadmap records implemented terminal, command launch, tiling, virtual workspaces, init and package tooling. Wireless validation, audio playback, installation, updates and release readiness remain ongoing. Newer lock-screen and control-panel changes are described in decision records; the original roadmap checklist is not fully reconciled.

The website uses labelled interface concepts from tools/motion-trailer/out/stills. These are not captures of the running system or evidence of feature availability or hardware compatibility. No public release image, hardware support matrix, contact address or contribution channel was verified. The configured GitHub repository returns 404 to anonymous access.

## For existing source contributors
Start with docs/ARCHITECTURE.md, docs/ROADMAP.md and docs/DECISIONS.md. The documented build environment is Linux/WSL2 with the source on the Linux filesystem. Read current build scripts before running a build; do not write system images without understanding their destination.

## Event
Nava OS Event 2027 is in production. Full opening, main film and event recording remain unfinished; date and viewing platform are unconfirmed.

Top-level README is stale. Older trailers contain inaccurate own-kernel and release-date copy and are not used as current product evidence.
